WATERCOLOR ARTIST

Self Portrait

About the Artist

I have always wanted to paint and have drawn and doodled, all of my life. I started out doing oils in the 80's. After developing an allergy to the oils, I started doing pencils, and pastels, but I always loved watercolor. Every time I bought a book, it was watercolor, and I didn't even realize it until one of my friends pointed that out to me, and told me I needed to start painting with water color.

In 1991 I took my first workshop and have been hooked since that time. I have gotten to  take workshops with Don Getz, Joe Belt, Marsha Wilkes,  JoBeth Gilliam, Helen Gwinn, Betty Carr, Jan Kunz, Naomi Brotherton, Ken Hosmer, Vicky Clark (pastel artist), Tony Couch, Margaret Martin, Frank Francese and George James, Judi Betts and Carla O'Connor

I am a member of West Texas Watercolor Society , Wyoming Watercolor Society,National Watercolor Society, American Watercolor Society, Southwestern Watercolor Society  and in the Yoakum County Art association in my home town and have won numerous first place awards including Best in Show, and Best in Photography.

I have signature status with Wyoming Watercolor Society, and Southwestern Watercolor Society.

I currently have my watercolor paintings hanging in both public and private collections.  One of my very large flag paintings was purchased by Yoakum County in Plains, Texas and now hangs in the county courthouse.  My work was  featured in the North Light Magazine in December, 2002.  And later I had a Christmas scene and a floral postcard in North Light

A floral was featured in Watercolor Magic's Website in June, 2003,and then two more of my paintings were on their website.   A Western painting was  the cover on Yoakum county Historical Society Calendar Cover for 2002, Yoakum County Connection T-Shirt Design in 2002-2005. a "One Woman Show" at Barnes and Nobles Bookstore in Lubbock, Texas in 2003 featuring my flags and then again in December featuring my Christmas Art.

Some of my sketches were featured  in Artist's Sketchbook in January 2004. I also have western and Christmas scenes on coffee labels, for Coffee City USA, in Tyler, TX.

2005

I had 2 solo exhibits at the Asbury Gallery in Lubbock, TX.  Texas Country Register and Oklahoma Festival papers used my art as their front cover.  The Senior Connection from Chicago Illinois also used a Christmas scene for their front page of their Christmas issue in 2005.

Snow Families

Currently I am doing lots of Christmas Cards. I do a painting and then scan it, and make the cards on my computer. Right now I am doing "Snow Families." They are snowmen that depict a family. I get information on the family about their pets, occupations, kids, favorite colors, etc, and then I do the painting. Then the cards. I am already taking orders for next year. The original painting and the cards go together. I have several "generic" Snowmen Christmas cards also. I have had so much fun and pleasure out of doing these. I also paint lots of American flags. I quilt and enjoy doing quilt paintings as well.

I have started something new, called "Paper Painting" or Torn Paper Collage.  It is collage with paper from Magazines on stretched Canvas.
